Tropical vibes with the floral letter set
You can find a template to match the colours of the Floral Letters watercolour canvas set here:
Step 1: Cockatoo
Before we start, the sketch needs to be transferred to the canvas. A soft pencil with a thickness of B is best for this. You can easily download the template from us.
Don't know how to transfer sketches correctly? No problem, we have summarised this for you in this article:
Step 2: Prime the cockatoo
As soon as you have transferred your sketch to the canvas, you can really get started. Use the ABT-817 and ABT-873 to give the cockatoo its basic colours. Apply the two colours next to each other on the blending palette, then use your water brush. Gradually dip the water tank brush into the individual colours on the blending palette and pick up the corresponding colour. Then paint the cockatoo with it. Start with the chest and work your way forward slowly.
Feel free to mix the colours on the blending palette and try out the pressure on the water tank to regulate the amount of water. You can dab the colour on a tissue in between so that the water tank brush is clean again.
Step 3: Shading
After the cockatoo has been given some colour, it is now given a few shades. Apply ABT-679 to the blending palette and pick up the colour again with the water brush. Then colour in the eye area, the claws and the underside of the feathers. This gives the picture more depth and makes it look more realistic.
Step 4: Tree trunk
After the cockatoo becomes more and more colourful, turn your attention to the tree trunk. Take the ABT-679 again and start applying the colour directly under the claws. As you spread the colour, start to blend it in more and more. Now use the water tank brush to apply the other colours and paint the tree trunk with them.
Step 5: Finishing touches
To make the feathers look even more realistic, take the ABT-673 and use the tip of the brush to draw in the unevenness of the feathers.
Step 6: Trace the outline
Now trace the outline again with the tip of the ABT-679 brush on the trunk, claws, beak and wings. Finally, add a few splashes of colour to the edges of your work of art and your cockatoo is finished.
Done!
