Creative sustainability - with a heart for dragonflies

The dragonfly in our logo is a perfect symbol of nature, flying freely through the sky, embodying grace and freedom. It inspires us and reminds us of our dream of a world with clear skies and clean water, where both dragonflies and people can live.

At Tombow, we have a mission: to redefine common practices and traditions through our products to bring joy and satisfaction to our customers. That's why we develop products that not only support your creative work, but also allow you to innovate with a clear conscience. Our product portfolio includes items in recycled packaging or made from recycled materials, so you can be creative with a clear conscience. We are committed to the responsible use of resources to protect and improve the environment.

Our commitment

Products made from recycled materials & PEFC-certified wood

We offer products made from recycled materials in our portfolio. These items have the same high quality and functionality as conventional products. We also produce wooden products from PEFC-certified forests. By using PEFC-certified wood, we contribute to the protection of natural resources and the preservation of biodiversity, as with our products from the Ki-Monogatari series.

Refillable products for every day

We place great importance on developing refillable products that are both practical and durable. Our refillable options are designed to be easy to use and efficient in the long term. A good example of this is our correction rollers, which offer various refill products.

Packaging made from forest-certified paper

Since 2021, we have been using forest-certified paper in the development of new product packaging. Our sets of ABT pens are a good example of this. We are continuously working on gradually switching all packaging to forest-certified paper or recycled materials.

Participation in the Green Purchasing Network

Japan's Green Purchasing Promotion Act (official name: "Act on the Promotion of Procurement of Green Goods and Services by the Government and Other Entities"), which came into force in 2001, promotes the use of goods and services by government agencies and other organisations to create a society that can develop sustainably and reduce environmental pollution. The Green Purchasing Network (GPN) is a non-profit organisation in Japan that promotes green purchasing and consists of a network of companies, governments and consumers. Tombow (Japan) has been a proud member of the Green Purchasing Network since 1996.

Our labels

PEFC-certified wood

PEFC-certified wood stands for responsible forestry practices and guarantees that the wood comes from well-managed forests. By purchasing PEFC-certified products, you are supporting the responsible management of forests. These forestry standards ensure that forests remain healthy and species-rich, helping to preserve biodiversity and combat climate change. Tombow (Japan) has been a PEFC-certified company since 2008. Tombow Pen & Pencil (Germany) is a distribution company.

Eco Mark Japan

Products with the Eco Mark are certified by the Japan Environmental Association. The Eco Mark is a Type I eco-label based on ISO 14024 standards and is awarded to products that are proven to have a low environmental footprint throughout their life cycle - from manufacture to disposal - and are useful for environmental protection. This label can only be found on products sold in Japan; European products do not carry this label on their packaging. Tombow (Japan) has been manufacturing Eco Mark products since 1992.

Biomass Mark

The "Biomass Mark" of the Japan Organics Recycling Association is applied to products that use biological resources (biomass). An attached number indicates the "biomass level", the ratio of the dry weight of the biomass used to the dry weight of the product. This mark can only be found on products sold in Japan; European products do not carry this mark on their packaging.
